Levels

How we use the four labels

We would rather you came to a class one step below where you think you are. Every teacher gives a second option for the harder half of a phrase.

Beginner
No experience assumed. You will be taught the vocabulary, and the group will have been running for at most eight weeks.
Intermediate
You have danced this style for about a year, know the basic steps by name and can pick up a short phrase in one go.
Advanced
Several years in this style. Phrases are taught fast, and rehearsal-style corrections are given to the whole room.
Open level
Everybody in the same room, with two versions of each phrase. Most of the weekend classes and all practicas are open level.

Before your first class

  • Come ten minutes early and say it is your first time — the teacher will place you where you can see.
  • Wear what you can move in. Ballet needs socks or ballet shoes, breaking needs clean indoor trainers, heels classes accept trainers.
  • There is water at every studio and a locker you can lock. Bring nothing valuable to the Cypher-Raum, it has no lockers of its own.
  • You can stop, sit down or leave at any point. Nobody will ask you why.

Street Kids, ages 8 to 12

One children's class, Saturdays at 10:30 in Wandsbek, taught by Tuva Lindgren. Twelve Saturdays a term, €135, no membership needed. One adult may stay on the bench at the side.

Booking is done by a parent or guardian and we ask only for the child's first name, their age and one contact number. We do not photograph the class and we delete the registration data twelve months after the term ends.
